Raising the 'Beam

By Robert Beech

A Restoration Story - SSJ 537... (Part 1)

The Story starts with a long-term passion to own a Sunbeam S8. Raising kids and paying a mortgage have put this on the back burner for some time, but finally Iíve got round to it.

30th MAY 2002

I spot an advert in a local rag, for sale 1951 Sunbeam S8, unfinished project £900. Unfinished, actually meant basket case hardly started; it was a series of boxes of bits. However the frame had been powder coated, the tin ware was good and in primer, and the wheels and rubber were OK. So we haggled and for £800 I walked away with all my boxes wondering what I just done.
